Australia’s leading liquor retailer Dan Murphy’s is thrilled to announce its inaugural Regional Heroes program which will see local stores donate $1000 to local charity groups.

The initiative is designed to support and invest in local charities that provide much-need services in regional areas. The charity groups provide assistance to vital causes across health, education, disability services, sporting groups and community services to help improve greater access for those living in regional Australia. Each recipient has been selected by team members at local Dan Murphy’s stores, who recognise the valuable contribution these charity groups make to areas where they live and work.

Dan Murphy’s Managing Director Agi Pfeiffer-Smith said the initiative was a fantastic way to give back to the community. “This has been a wonderful way for our team members who live and work in their local communities to connect even more with the people around them,” she said. “This is a true grassroots campaign where team members themselves have nominated charities of their choice to be worthy recipients of these donations." “This is just another way we can support local groups doing wonderful things for people in their communities.”

Among the areas identified for support are Queensland’s towns of Kirwan, Aitkenvale, Dalrymple, Earlville and Smithfield. New South Wales’ towns of Tamworth and Armidale have also been included. In Victoria, Warrnambool. Mildura and Sale will be recipients. In Western Australia, Albany, Busselton and Bunbury have united to assist a community throughout the southwest.

Dalrymple Dan Murphy’s Store Manager Mark Hampton said the team were thrilled to be able to help those in need through “Angel Flight”. “We have a very diverse customer base, from our local customers to our remote property stations and communities that stock up at Dans before their journey back home,” he said. “They come into town for a number of reasons, resupply, family and quite often, for medical appointments/treatment. “It was our connection with these customers instore, that we were made aware of Angel Flight." “It is a volunteer group of aviators to give up their time and resources flying to remote stations who are sometimes 6-8 hrs away from a township to fly them into Townsville for medical appointments/treatments. “They also organise transport, by volunteer drivers, to and from the airport whilst in Townsville." “Without these volunteers, some people would forgo their medical treatments due to the logistical challenge.”
